After a census was issued by Caesar Augustus, Joseph went up from Nazareth to Bethlehem with Mary, who was expecting to give birth. This was not a random event, but fulfilled prophecy and Scripture that the Messiah would be born in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). While they were there, Mary gave birth to her firstborn son, and wrapped him in cloths and placed him in a manger, because there was no room for Jesus in the inn. On this Christmas day, let us make sure there is room in our hearts to welcome King Jesus.

An angel of the Lord appeared to some shepherds living in the fields nearby, bringing to them good news of great joy that would be for all the people. A Savior, Christ the Lord, had been born to them! Instead of coming in power and glory, the Savior came as a baby wrapped in cloths, lying in a manger. He is our humble Shepherd and King. Let us bow down and worship him!

A great host of angels appeared and praised God, saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” The coming of the Messiah brings us great joy and peace. Let us worship the Lord with all of our hearts today for this great gift he has given us in his Son.
Application: Father, thank you so much for sending your Son, Jesus Christ into the world to be our salvation and our peace. We worship you today for this great gift.
