When the Son of Man returns in his glory, he will come as the righteous judge (31). Like a shepherd separating sheep from goats, he will separate those who belong to him from those who do not (33).

The righteous reveal their faith through practical acts of love and mercy toward those in need. They are not receiving salvation because of their service, but their humble service shows that they share in the Lord’s character, loving and serving even the “least of the brothers and sisters” (40). The wicked ones’ negligence of the opportunity to serve those in need displays their hearts separated from the Lord, and he would take it personally (45).

We are called to live out our faith through genuine love as we await Christ's return and final judgment. Are you actively looking to serve those in need, seeking opportunities to help them? Would you pray to share in the shepherd heart of Jesus to serve his “little ones” today?
Application: Father, I am far too selfish, and my service is selective by my feelings. Please help me to be clothed in your love, so that I can love and serve, remembering how you gave up your heavenly glory when I was a helpless sinner.
