God gives very clear regulations regarding sexual relations because sexual immorality is one of the most destructive expressions of our sinful nature (Gal 5:22). God’s commands are given to protect his people. In his grace and mercy, He brought Israel out of Egypt and into the Promised Land, and He desired to guard his children from evil practices that inflict pain, shame, sorrow and suffering. God reminds them of his saving grace and promises that those who obey will live. Likewise, we can bear and enjoy God’s blessings when we remember God’s infinite mercy and grace and decide to obey himas our Lord by being sexually pure.

The laws given here reveal that God knows the depth of human sin and the despicable actions people are capable of. These commands are convicting, sobering, and at times even unsettling because they expose the reality of our fallen nature. Yet they are also empowering. God’s laws protect women and children from injustice and establish healthy boundaries for sexual relationships. his laws also help us to understand God’s design for sexuality, reminding us that we must not conform to the pattern of this world. God also warns his people of the judgment that comes upon those who fail to keep these laws. God urges us to know that He alone is the Lord.
