Jesus told his disciples to learn how to discern the signs of the times. He warned them what was to come. When they happened, people would know that the Son of Man is coming again. Jesus’ words are eternal. Heaven and earth may pass away, but Jesus’ words are eternal.

While calamitous events will occur before the coming of the Son of Man, life seems to go on in the same way it always does. Men work the fields, women grind grain. But then suddenly one will be taken, and the other left. While the signs will be evident, the exact timing is in God’s hands alone. No one knows when it will happen. But it will happen. Jesus is definitely coming! So, what should we do? We should live as if he were coming today. We should be watchful. If we knew a thief was coming to rob us, we would be watchful at all times, waiting to protect our home and family. In the same way, we need to be watchful, fully expecting Jesus’ return. This is what it means to be a wise servant. We should be dressed and ready for service when Jesus comes again. We are called to be ready for him when he comes.
Application: Father, thank you that Jesus is coming again! Help me to be a wise and faithful servant by keeping watch for his return.
