The Lord’s people in Judah invited judgment on themselves because they were disobedient, proud, and refused to listen to the Lord’s rebuke. Even their religious leaders were sinful and wicked. Despite their unfaithfulness, morning by morning, the Lord upheld his justice. He judged godless nations, thinking that his people in Jerusalem would fear him, but they continued in their corruption. Therefore, they invited God’s judgment upon them.

God’s hope through his judgment was to purify them and restore their faith in him. The remnant would line up to serve him. God’s hope would be fulfilled by the meek and humble who trusted in the Lord and who turned away from doing wrong. God would sing and rejoice over his holy remnant. He would be with them like a Mighty Warrior. and he would delight in them and love them. God promised to restore them and their fortunes. He would do it even though they looked too weak to be restored.
Application: Father, thank you for your hope of forgiveness and restoration. Help me to turn to you and experience your salvation and love.
