God’s judgment was on its way, especially on his own people, who had received so many spiritual blessings. God’s judgment was imminent, but he sent the prophet Zephaniah to warn them in advance. He cautioned them to seek God, repent of their sins, and humbly turn back to God. Only those that did so would be saved. The same is true now. We cannot rely on our heritage or past record of faith. We need to personally come to Jesus, repent, and humbly seek him. May God help us to not harden our hearts nor close our ears.

In this passage, God says that when the holy remnant seeks his face and turns to him, he will bless them by giving over to them the land of their enemies. Their enemies will be destroyed, and they will be blessed. The Lord promises to care for them and restore his holy remnant (7). God hears and sees what the wicked do; they will not get away with it. Even the strongest among them will be destroyed. For example, Assyria was a world power at one time, but after God’s judgment, the nation was utterly ruined and it never rose again.
Application: Father, thank you for sparing your remnant. Please help my nation, church, and family to seek the Lord, humbly repent, and be his holy remnant.
