How are the dead raised? This sounds like a reasonable question, but Paul found it foolish. There is so much evidence of God’s life-giving work around us. A seed dies, but a plant is born, and there are countless different plants, each with its own God-given body. Animals, birds and fish each have bodies created by God. He also made every one of the countless heavenly bodies. All people must die, but God is able to give each one a new resurrection body—a spiritual body—glorious and imperishable.
We are descendants of Adam. We have all borne his image, natural men subject to sin and death. Jesus is different. He is the heavenly man, the spiritual man. He is risen. We may not know what the resurrection body is, but when we follow Jesus, we have the assured hope of being made newly in his image. We live today with this as our resurrection hope.
Application: Lord, you are the creator of life, and you are glorified in all things. Help me to have resurrection hope—the hope to be made new in the image of Jesus.
One Word: So shall we bear his image
