THE SABBATH: THE COVENANT SIGN

Date : Aug 05, 2026
Passage : Exodus 31:1~18
Keyverse : 13

God showed Moses the design of the tabernacle and its furnishings. He specifically called Bezalel and filled him with the Spirit of God to carry out this work. God also appointed Oholiab and other skilled workers to assist him. When God entrusts us with his work, he also gives us the ability to carry it out, as well as able coworkers. We ask God to grant us his Spirit that gives wisdom, power, and gifts to serve his work. We are also called to work together in one heart with the coworkers God has sent us.

Regarding the observance of the Sabbath, God had already stated this command earlier (16:21-30, 20:8–11). Yet he reiterated the observance of the Sabbath once again in a strong and solemn tone. God regarded keeping the Sabbath as the sign distinguishing Israel as his chosen people. This renewed command concerning the Sabbath was given before the construction of the tabernacle. It implied that the Sabbath must never be suspended, even during the building of God’s tabernacle. God’s commands must not be set aside under the pretext of doing God’s work, while seeking personal gain. Observing the Sabbath is not a burden, but the path to experiencing the true peace and blessings God bestows. By keeping the Lord's Day holy, we renew our covenant relationship with God and live as God’s people.
Application: Lord, help us to keep your day holy and to serve your work with our coworkers for your glory.
One Word: Worship God; serve his work together
