KEEPING THE LORD’S SUPPER HOLY

Date : Jun 20, 2026
Passage : 1Corinthians 11:17~34
Keyverse : 28

Paul rebukes the Corinthian church harshly, because what they called “The Lord’s Supper” was nothing like what Jesus intended for us to observe (20). It seems the church’s celebration involved a fellowship meal, which is good, but some members would bring private dinners that they didn’t share with others, and some would overeat and even get drunk while others went hungry (21).

The meaning of the Lord’s Supper, or communion, is to use physical food and drink to symbolize the body and blood of Jesus and help us remember how he gave himself for us (24). It is a proclamation of Christ’s death, which we keep in our hearts until he returns (25). Whatever the details of the observance are, the attitude of everyone involved should be to examine themselves, repenting so that we may not fall under God’s discipline (32).

Thank God that most churches today celebrate communion in an orderly way. When we have other kinds of fellowship, we should also do it in a way that welcomes everyone equally in Christ. Every gathering of God’s people should be a holy occasion, remembering what Christ has done for us.
Application: Father, thank you for Jesus who gave his life for us. Help me keep my heart right before you by remembering Christ in everything.
One Word: Remember Jesus’ death
