SEEKING THE GOOD OF OTHERS

Date : Jun 18, 2026
Passage : 1Corinthians 10:14~11:1
Keyverse : 10:24

Though it is not necessarily a sin to eat meat sacrificed to idols, Paul knew that there were some Corinthian Christians who were flirting with idolatry by the freedoms they indulged in (15). Paul reminded them of the holiness of eating the Lord’s supper, which is an intimate participation in the body and blood of Christ (16-17). Would we want to enjoy something from the world if it was participating in fellowship with demons (20-21)?

The Corinthians were so interested in being allowed to do anything that they neglected to think clearly about what is beneficial to do (23). They were like children who have been given a new privilege but don’t know how to use it. So, Paul gives the true principle of how to use our Christian freedom: it is to seek the good of others, not ourselves (24). In deciding whether to participate in anything, we should consider whether it will hurt the faith of any young believers or seekers who see us do it (28-29, 32). This is the way that all our actions, even eating and drinking, can glorify God (10:30). Paul was diligent in following this principle himself, so that as many people as possible could be saved (33). As a result, he could show himself as an example worthy of being followed (11:1).
Application: Father, thank you for teaching me in Christ to look beyond my own interests and seek the good of others.
One Word: Glorify God by seeking others’ good
