The Lord instructed his people to construct a table overlaid with gold. There were also many ornate furnishings to accompany the table. God instructed the people to place the bread of the Presence on this table. It was to be set before the Lord at all times. God was teaching his people that he is the Presence; he is with them at all times. They can have beautiful communion with the Lord. The Lord will not leave them. King David learned this truth in his many struggles, saying, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”
The Lord also instructed the Israelites to make a lampstand of pure gold. God’s presence and his word are the light of life. Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” God is our guide. He brings us out of our darkness to himself. The golden lampstand looks forward to Jesus, who said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” (Jn 8:12)
Application: Lord, thank you for your presence in my life. Help me to walk by your light.
One Word: Be guided by God’s light
