TRADITIONS AND COMMANDMENTS

Date : May 28, 2026
Passage : Matthew 15:1~20
Keyverse : 18

The Pharisees came to Jesus and asked why his disciples did not wash their hands when they ate. They thought the tradition of the elders, such as washing hands, was very important, even more important than the word of God. Jesus pointed out that they broke the commandment of God for the sake of their traditions. Jesus called them hypocrites. The people honored God with their lips, but their heart was far from God. Are we, for the sake of tradition, forsaking God’s commands?

Jesus says that what goes into the mouth, such as eating with unwashed hands, does not defile a person. Rather what comes out of the mouth, which is from the heart, defiles a person. Out of our heart comes all types of evil thought, murder, and adultery. What comes out of our heart defiles us.
Application: Lord Jesus, what comes out of our heart defiles us. Our unbelief, murder, and evil thoughts defile us. Help us to repent and may you wash us with your blood.
One Word: May Jesus wash us from our sins and rule our heart
