This Psalm contrasts wicked people and God. The wicked have no fear of God. The wicked are selfish and flatter themselves to the point where they believe their own flattery (2). The wicked speaks words of deceit. They neither act wisely nor do good. In fact, the wicked spend their time plotting evil on their beds and then committing themselves to the evil they have planned.

On the other hand, God is love (1 Jn 4:16). His love reaches the heavens and his faithfulness to the skies (5). The magnitude of God’s righteousness and justice is the highest mountain or the great deep (6). God’s unfailing love is of endless worth, for by his love he preserves people and animals. Though we are impacted by the wicked in the world, we can also take refuge in the shadow of God’s wings. In God’s refuge, we can feast on God’s abundant blessings, experience the fountain of life, and see God’s light. Do you know the great height and depth of God’s love for you? Do not allow God’s love to grow cold or remain shallow. Pray to continue to know his love and righteousness (10).

The Psalmist ends with a prayer for protection against the wicked. God brings their downfall.
Application: Father, thank you for your love that reaches to the heavens and for being faithful to us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
