David recognized that no one is greater than the LORD our God. Even all the heavenly beings must ascribe all glory and strength to the LORD. All things, in heaven and on earth, are called to give glory to the LORD and worship him in the splendor of his holiness. Our God deserves nothing less from all creation, including each of us.
In verses 3-9, David describes the power and authority of the voice of the LORD. The LORD’s voice is poetically described as a powerful storm over the waters. God thunders over the mighty waters. His voice is powerful and majestic. When God speaks, even the cedars of Lebanon break. God moves peoples, nations, and nature (6,8) all according to his will. The voice of the LORD strikes with the force and suddenness of lightning and can strip a forest bare. We marvel at and fear the awesome power of hurricanes and tornados and what they can do. The voice of the LORD is even more powerful.
What is your response to God’s voice, through his word in the Bible? Cry out, “Glory!” as you listen to and worship him. He is enthroned over the flood as our eternal King. He will give you strength and bless you with his peace.
Application: Almighty LORD, there is no one like you. We repent for listening to the voices of the world. Help us to hear your voice and worship you.
One Word: Hear the voice of our LORD and King
