Solomon’s reputation as a man who had received God’s wisdom spread to many nations. The queen of Sheba visited Solomon with hard questions and rich gifts. Hearing Solomon’s answer to all her questions and seeing his great accomplishments, the queen was greatly marveled and praised the God of Solomon. God-given wisdom is life-giving; it draws people together just as a fragrant flower attracts bees and butterflies. God delights to give his wisdom to those who long for it, and to display his glory through his wisdom.
Solomon’s wisdom also brought great wealth and splendor. Many kings of the earth sought audience with him to hear God’s wisdom. They came with gifts of gold and silver. Solomon made many shields with gold. He also made a great throne, goblets and all the household articles in the palace with gold. In his time, gold was so abundant that silver was not considered valuable. Solomon’s wisdom, fame, and wealth, however, were God’s gifts (1Ki 3:11-13). Yet when his time came, he died. His earthly glory, fame and wealth faded after his death. Jesus said, “…store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…” “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness…” (Mt 6:20,33).
Application: Lord, help me pursue heavenly treasures and store them up in heaven by seeking your kingdom and righteousness first.
One Word: Invest in heavenly treasures
