THE LORD IS A REFUGE AND A STRONGHOLD

Date : Oct 31, 2025
Passage : Joel 3:1~21
Keyverse : 16b

God will exercise his judgment on the all the nations of the earth. He will at that time restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem. He will gather all nations in the Valley of Jehoshaphat to judge them for their actions against his people. His judgment is just. Those who oppressed Israel will face dire consequences. The imagery of war and harvest symbolizes the severity of God's judgment, while the darkening of the sun and moon signals a momentous event. But despite all this imagery, we can see hope, as God promises to be a refuge and a stronghold for his people.

The passage describes how Jerusalem will be holy, free from foreign invasion, and filled with abundance. The mountains will drip with new wine and hills will flow with milk symbolizing prosperity and divine blessing. We see God’s justice, as he promises to avenge the innocent blood shed by Israel's enemies. God will dwell with his people, ensuring security and peace for his people forever.
Application: Father, you are the Judge. You are also our refuge and our stronghold. May people from every nation repent and come back to you.
One Word: The Lord dwells in Zion!
