RETURN TO THE LORD WITH ALL YOUR HEART

Date : Oct 29, 2025
Passage : Joel 2:1~17
Keyverse : 12

The prophet Joel warns of God’s impending judgment. The day of the Lord was coming. It would be a dreadful day. Whether these verses describe an actual invasion of Judah’s enemies, or is symbolic of God’s coming judgment, it is indeed a fearful thing he depicts. The skies would be darkened; the earth would tremble. The innumerable host that was coming would be unstoppable. But even amidst this imagery, we see that God’s sovereignty. It is his day. He is in control. His judgment could lead to eternal punishment or salvation. Nevertheless, it will be a dreadful day. Who can endure it?

God's desire is for his people to turn back to him sincerely. It is not too late. With fasting, mourning, and repentance, the Lord may relent. Who knows, he may even send a blessing! True, sincere repentance is not merely outward ritual but an inward transformation. Our hearts must be changed. "Rend your heart and not your garments." God is "gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in love." Although God’s threatened punishment is real, God’s true desire is to restore.
Application: Father, we are sinners. Help us to repent and turn back to you. Restore us and send us your blessing.
One Word: Return to the Lord!
