Paul, Barnabas and John Mark sailed for Perga. There, John Mark left them and returned to Jerusalem. Then Paul and Barnabas went on to Pisidian Antioch, where, after reading from the Law and Prophets, they were invited by the synagogue leaders to say more. As Christians, we should always be ready to talk about our faith.
Paul spoke to the people the history of the Jewish people, from the Exodus up to the death and resurrection of Jesus. Paul spoke of how God chose Israel, led them out of Egypt, endured their hardships in the wilderness, and granted them the Promised Land. He then recounted the period of the Judges, followed by Israel's request for a king, leading to Saul's reign. After Saul, God raised up David, a man after his own heart, from whose lineage the promised Savior, Jesus, came. Paul also mentions John the Baptist, who prepared the way for Jesus by preaching repentance and declaring that he was not the Messiah but that one greater was coming. The Jews handed their Messiah over to Pilate to have him crucified, but God raised him up. Jesus’ resurrection is the fulfillment of God’s promises throughout Israel’s history. What the Law couldn’t do, Jesus’ death on the cross did!
