When Solomon’s prayer was finished, God showed his sign by sending a fire that consumed the offering and sacrifices (1). The entire temple was filled with the glory of God, so that all Israel would see his approval of the temple, its dedication, and Solomon’s spiritual leadership and prayer.

Next, God appeared to Solomon when he had finished the temple and his own palace. He answered Solomon’s prayer with his words. He acknowledged the temple as a place of presence, as he assured Solomon that he had heard the prayers given at the temple. The people of Israel may still encounter trouble in the future. But God promises salvation if they turn away from evil ways and seek him (14). God also repeated his promise to Solomon, as an inheritor of his father, David’s throne and legacy, that he would not fail him or his children as rulers of his people as long as they walked in the way of God.

God honors those who honor him (1 Sam 2:30). He honored Solomon as he dedicated his heart of worship and prayer as a ruler of Israel. Would you come before him this morning, to give your honor and praise to our God Almighty?
Application: Father, thank you for listening to my prayers as you have promised. I am humbled by your grace and love. Please help me to honor you today in everything I do.
