David this time organized the Levites who will serve music before God. As verse 1 mentions, this is not just joyful singing, but an active ministry of prophesying accompanied by instruments. The Levites must have written some portion of Psalms and many other songs during their ministry. The Psalms whether knowingly or unknowingly prophesy of Jesus Christ. Who knows, God may be speaking to us through our songs and prayers. So may we continue to sing before God to glorify his name and hear his voice!
1 Chronicles 23:30 says, praising and thanking God is not a small matter but what we are supposed to do every morning and evening. This shows how God is very pleased when we give thanks to him and praise his name. There were 24 families chosen through lots.
In serving God with music, there were no limitations, young or old, teachers or students. May we fill our homes, churches, schools, and workplaces with music and singing. When we praise the name of the Lord, God will be pleased, and he will fill our hearts and lips with prophesying and let us know the deep things of God with the help of his Spirit. Moreover, our hearts will be filled with the joy and love of God.
Application: Lord, help us to make music before you.
One Word: Ministry of prophesying
