Jacob called for his sons and shared blessings and prophesies regarding each of them. Each son represented one of the twelve tribes of Israel and each had their own characteristics.

Notable among the 12 was Judah who carried a Messianic prophecy. From Judah would come the line of kings, including King David. Jesus would come from the line of Judah and fulfill God’s promise of an everlasting kingdom and rule, marked by God’s love and mercy.

Joseph also received a notable blessing. Like Jacob, Joseph witnessed God who was with him throughout many hardships and spared his life and used him as a blessing for his whole family.
Application: Lord, you are the God of history. May our lives reflect your grace and blessing for ages to come.
