JACOB WENT TO EGYPT

Date : Sep 03, 2025
Passage : Genesis 46:1~34
Keyverse : 3,4

As Jacob decided to go to Egypt and offered a sacrifice, God assured him in his dream. He promised to go down to Egypt with him, as it was part of his plan to grow Israel into a great nation and bring them back (3,4).

Jacob had a big family, including his sons and their children. They all went to Egypt and arrived in Goshen, where Joseph came out to meet them. Joseph and Jacob had a tearful reunion (29).

Joseph recognized himself as a provider and protector for his father and family. He instructed Jacob and the brothers to keep their occupation as shepherds (34) so that they would settle in Goshen. There, they would be separated from Egyptians, who valued agriculture over tending livestock. Joseph understood God’s intention for his people. He would provide his people with a safe place and food, but he did not want them to be assimilated into the Egyptian culture. They would grow into a great nation in a foreign land, struggling to maintain their identity and be refined as God’s chosen people, according to God's promise to Abraham. (Gen 15:13,14)
Application: Father, thank you for providing me with a safe place and daily bread today. Help me recognize myself as your servant and live before you, knowing that you are our Provider, not Pharaoh.
One Word: God leads me in his good plan.
