When Babylon falls, there will be a great multitude of God’s people shouting “Hallelujah! Salvation and power and glory belong to our God!” These shouts are like roars of thunder. The shouting is of praise and glory to God. Why the shouting? The shouting of the great multitude is because of two things. First, the destruction of Babylon. God is the Judge. He abhors all sin because he is holy. Babylon was destroyed because of her many sins. And so they would shout, “The smoke from her goes up for ever and ever.” God’s judgment was sure, and it was so complete Babylon would never rise again. And so, all of God’s people, who love and glorify him will give a shout of triumph for our God. “Praise our God, all you his servants, you who fear him, both great and small.”

Secondly, the great multitude of God’s people shouted glory to God because he sits on his heavenly throne reigning over all his creation. “Hallelujah! For our Lord God Almighty reigns! Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory!” Then the Lamb will come, and his bride will make herself ready wearing fine linen (representing our righteous acts). Blessed are all those who have been invited to the wedding banquet of the Lamb.
Application: Father, sometimes it seems like the battle against sin is not winnable. Help us to see the assured victory in Jesus.
