RESTORING WORSHIP

Date : Jul 20, 2025
Passage : 1Chronicles 9:1~44
Keyverse : 27

In the last chapter of this genealogy, the Chronicler lists the people from his own time who resettled Jerusalem and the surrounding areas. Their lives in exile had been hard, and now they had to start all over again. Yet, they were a living testimony to God’s faithfulness as he kept his promise to his people despite all their sins.

A special trust was given to Levites who were chosen to serve as gatekeepers. They were responsible for guarding the house (or tent) of the LORD and the treasures within. Their most important trait was vigilance (27). Others were in charge of the articles inside (28), others were in charge of food items and cooking (29-31), and others were musicians (33). All were important for helping Israel restore their worship and their identity as God’s people.

We, as Bible teachers, are the gatekeepers of the knowledge of God in our generation, and our responsibility is just as important. Our diligence in passing on the word of God helps maintain the stream of God’s blessing in the world.
Application: Father, thank you for giving us roles in your spiritual temple, the church. Help me to guard what has been entrusted to me in Jesus and pass it on to others.
One Word: A watchful gatekeeper of God’s house
