John was then given a task to measure the temple. The temple which John measures represents the church. The two witnesses are God's prophets, representing his word. They would prophesy under God’s protection for 1,260 days. During this limited time, unbelievers would trample on what is holy. The two witnesses preached God's word and made people very angry. Once the set time was completed, they would be attacked, overpowered, and killed. But God would raise them and bring them up to heaven. What followed was a time of destruction on the earth, but this also planted fear and repentance in many, bringing glory to God.

The trumpet of the seventh angel announces the time of final judgment and God's triumph. The kingdoms of the world become the kingdom of our Lord and of his Christ. God is praised, and his heavenly temple is opened. This represents the fulfillment of the hope of the eternal God. The ark of the covenant in the heavenly temple shows God's faithfulness to keep his promises.
Application: Lord, help me be a faithful witness today, trusting in the fulfillment of your redemptive promise, until the advent of your eternal kingdom.
